Increasingly youth from vulnerable households are directionless with little or no dreams for their futures. Some experiment with drugs and/or gang activity; others face harsh realities such as early pregnancies and HIV infections. As we journey with youth in their homes, through our community projects and in the schools, we see over and over that many young people easily get side-tracked due to the absence of parental guidance and a lack of life-skills coaching. Roughly 80% of youth from the disadvantaged areas in the Kouga Municipality where we are based do not move onto tertiary education. This is primarily because of the lack of proper guidance and support for these young people. LXP’s response is Chosen Generation.
A youth discipleship program that seeks to bring young people in the local townships face to face with the reality of the Kingdom of God and the life that Jesus insists is available here and now. This is done through intense discipleship and working through the medium of arts in music, poetry, debates and life orientation discussions. During the week the youth impacted by our various community projects are encouraged to join in on our Friday Chosen Generation gatherings.Through this, youth come together and all the projects’ young people are united. We have fun, play games, worship, laugh, cry and most of all grow to know Jesus together. Healthy relationships are encouraged and biblical values are facilitated. Youth holiday program initiatives are also conducted during school breaks.
